Road Safety Program in Valle de Uco • Objectives: • Reduce the number of Road Injury deaths. • Perceive the size of this problem • Promote secure conduct and case solutions through a multitasking network. • Implement Road Education programs in every primary and secondary school of the district. • Spread the news about actions proposed using massive means of communication. • Create a multitasking network that will involve every participant. • Evaluate actions taken. • Understand Road Injury hazards in depth.
Actions Implemented • Record form: used in three regional hospital’s emergency wards. The list has been successfully used to elaborate a situational diagnosis and to evaluate the actions implemented. • Training courses: addressed to teachers, health promoters and other NGO. • Road Police: road users training program. Offenders are being fined. • Community: parents working together with the police to control alcohol levels outside the discos. • Means of communication: active participation.
Actions to be implemented in 2005 • 1- Training for: • a) Secondary school teachers and Road police so as to prepare students for their driver’s license. • b) Municipal promoters together with Road Police. • 2- Rotary Club Mendoza will provide safety seats to transport children in bikes. • 3- Students from schools which participate in the program will be provided with bikes. • 4- Bicycle recreational trips organized by different associations. • 5- Construction of a bicycle lane. • 6- Construction of a Road Education track by Rotary Club.
