You may use a glossary to help understand technical terms in science textbooks or historical terms in history textbooks. Literature textbooks have glossaries to explain literary terms. 4. Context clues are the clues that are contained in the sentence or sentences around an unknown word. A reader can often figure out the meaning of an unknown word from these clues. 5. People who use power and authority in a cruel and unjust way are oppressors. The clues to this definition are the words“hate” and “faces of hell and death.”
