Status of R-WIP in RA-IV • RAIV WIGOS Implementation Plan • 1st Draft resulted from a joint RA III and RA IV Workshop in November 2012 • Elements discussed at 3rd ICG-WIGOS in 2013 • Presented to 16th Regional Association IV in Curaçao in April 2013 • Resolution 50 (Cg-XVI) – WIGOS • Decisions of EC-64, CBS-15 & early work of the ICG-WIGOS
Status of R-WIP in RA-IV • RAIV WIGOS Implementation Plan • Requires initial investment for improvement of coordination & technological infrastructure • RA concerned about slight decrease in 2012 of # of stations & availability of RA IV RBSN & RBCN • Due to close link, reinstituted joint RA IVTask Team on WIGOS/WIS
Status of R-WIP in RA-IV • RAIV Approved R-WIP • RA IV Management Group responsible for implementation; guidance from CBS & CIMO • MG/Task Team to identify regional requirements; identify regional gaps; continually review R-WIP • Task Team toreport to MG annually
R-WIP Activities in 2013-2015 • Appoint National Focal Points • Compile info on existing national observing systems • Create inventory of existing Regional Networks, including process for ongoing maintenance • Improve availability & use of AWS data, existing & silent • Implement Regional Radar Mosaic Project
Implementation Challenges • PRs to understand WIGOS importance • Developing Human Capacity for WIGOS implementation • Compilation of Nation Observing Systems • Organizations with observing systems don’t communicate with each other
Implementation Challenges • Nation Observing Systems Data storage • Cost of database management & website development • Get AWS data onto the GTS • Implement web-based Open Data Archives to harvest GISC metadata ******
Implementation Challenges • Three training opportunities identified: • Creation of WIGOS metadata for National Observing Systems • Building capacity for Open Data Archives via national websites • Developing capacity in data exchange between GISC Washington, National Centres & DCPC
