  4. Why now? • End of Blackboard contract is June 30, 2008 • Community colleges and UNC system are looking at potential replacements. • GTCC needs more flexibility than our present-day consortium. • Blackboard hosting has not met our expectations. • Constant review is necessary to stay relevant.

Why Moodle? • Most flexible and stable of all the open source software. • Developed by an educator who understands how people learn. • Many key features that we use are present. • Positive reaction from current GTCC faculty. • Push from system office – eventual goal is to pay for the hosting of Moodle for all schools.

  12. Key Features • Fast editing • Easily switch roles from teacher to student • Everyone has a blog. • More data on student activities online • Sticky blocks added and removed • Discussion forums – students posts

  13. Moodle at GTCC • Five faculty members trained in Moodle this summer. • 15 active courses in Moodle this fall. • All GTCC faculty and staff in Moodle for pilot.

  14. ENG 111 • Five sections in one course sites • Students are separate including gradebooks and discussion forums. • Group of faculty sharing the course creation tasks. • Great idea for large departments with lots of adjuncts.

  15. Metacourse • Library is testing this with the ENG 111 courses. • Great for science labs and learning communities
