Why use Moodle? • Safe, secure area for students • Enables safe modelling of social networking tools (e.g. blogs, wikis, online chat, RSS, audio/video podcasting). • Online learning is becoming a common delivery system for education • High schools • NSVS • University / Community College • Organization Aid • All work is archived and accessible • No papers to lose • Date and time stamped
Why use Moodle? • All of us are potential teachers as well as learners • Moodle promotes student voice, agency and evidence-informed inquiry. • We learn a lot by just observing the activity of our peers. • easy to group together collections of resources and make them available to groups of students. • Students work can be private or shared easily • Students can contribute to course content
Why use Moodle?Martin Dougiamas • We learn particularly well from the act of creating or expressing something for others to see. • a space where students can construct their own artefacts and expressions of understanding. • Glossary module allows students to create their own glossary of key terms for any course. • Discussion forums allow students to ask and answer each others questions in a powerful, student-centred way. How Do I Get A MOODLE? • All boards have access to MOODLE • hosted either by the DOE or locally • Technology contact in each board can easily and quickly set one up for you. • You can have more than one MOODLE • Material can easily be backed up and transferred to another course or section • You will logon on ( in most cases ) with your staff.ednet.ns.ca username and password • Students will logon on with their student.ednet.ns.ca username and password
