2. Introduction .Sojourner Truth was a very good women. She was involved with the civil rights movement or she had something to do with it…… just view this slide show and you will find out!

3. Achievements • Sojourner Truth have worked as a women’s rights activist in New York and other states in the early 1800’s. She began her work with groups designed to assist all women. From that she became a speaker all over the country speaking for women’s rights. Ms. Truth fought for the desegregation of streetcars in Washington, DC and won. Blacks used to have to ride at the back of the buses and street cars, and she refused and fought for the right to ride up front with the white people. She worked to help slaves after they were freed from their owners and out on their own. Sojourner helped the freed slaves adjust to their new surroundings by helping them find housing and jobs. She was also a preacher in a local church where Ms. Truth preached about God and other religious matters.

4. About 1775 she died in Battle Creek, Michigan, 26 November, 1883. She was very missed and many people loved her. A lot of people (family and friends) say she was blessed. Battle Creek, Michigan

5. Children • She learned that her five year old son, his name was Peter, had been sold by Dumot to Solomen Gedney then who sold Peter to an Alabama planter.

6. Dad Her father was born a slave and was a slave till the day he died. His master’s name was Mr. James and Mrs. Betsey Hardenburg. His name was James Hardenburg. He was a loving father.

7. Escaped Neely • Neely was one of her owners. Her dad was very sick and she heard about it somehow. When she heard she asked Neely if she could go see him and he said yes 

9. Guy named Robert When she was a teen she met this guy named Robert who worked on a different plantation. She would go to his plantation and he would go to her plantation. They would talk and have picnics, but one day when they were in between both plantations Roberts owners followed him and found him with Sojourner Truth and beat him, tied him up, and took him back to his plantation.

10. Hurley, New York Sojourner Truth was born in Hurley, a city of New York. The Year she was born in is 1797. Yeah, I’m not sure what day or time so moving on.

11. Isabella Believe it or not Sojourner Truth’s real name was not Sojourner Truth. It was Isabella Hardenburg ,she liked that name but she wanted something with more meaning. I got the information from a book, Author-David A. Alder Title- A Picture Book of Sojourner Truth.

12. Job He job was to help in the kitchen and clean. She loved to help her mother in the kitchen.

13. Knowledge Truth always had much knowledge. She was a very smart little girl. First of all she escaped her 2nd owners (the Neely's). Second of all she was the first African American allowed in court………. and she actually WON!!!

20. Real Name Did you know Sojourner Truth had a different name? It was Isabella Hardenburg.

21. Sold She was born into her mother and father’s owner Betsey and James Hardenberg. When she was just nine she was sold to Mr. and Mrs. John Neely, Who beat her.

22. <3Thomas<3 When she lived with the Dumots at the time a new slave Thomas showed up, he was new. The Dumots needed more slaves because slaves keep running away and some where just dying, so he decided that Thomas and Isabella (that was her name at the time) would get married. She didn’t love Thomas at first but after they were married for a while she loved him very much.

23. The Underground Railroad She was an escaped slave for many years. She hid from her master/owner for almost two years until slavery was abolished. She chose the Underground Railroad for her path to freedom.

24. Volunteer • Truth gathered supplies for black volunteer regiments and in 1864 went to Washington, D.C. where she helped integrate streetcars and was received at the white house by president Abe Lincoln. The same year, she accepted an appointment with the National Freedmen's Relief Association.

25. Who she lost..  When she was just a little girl she lost her 2 brothers and 1 sister, her first owners sold her away from her family. She harshly remembers them but she loved them very much. She always said she would meet them once again.

26. Xan-a-du She was a very Xan a Du person. Meaning she was very beautiful.

27. Yearned Sojourner had a desire to escape Neely/ she yearned to escape Neely because he beat her and was cruel.

28. Zeal Sojourner was a very zeal person. She always tried her hardest. 

29. Conclusion She was a very strong women. When she wanted something she got! She made a big impact on the Civil Rights Movement.
