  2. Winter Driving • Drivers should be able to recognize and effectively deal with hazardous driving conditions • Prepare yourself mentally for winter driving conditions • Remain calm when driving in inclement weather • Be extra cautious when driving in mountains • Watch carefully for black ice

Winter Driving Tips • Make sure your vehicle is in top condition before each trip • Do a complete and thorough pre trip inspection • Start a little slower drive a little slower • Compensate for poor traction by driving slower • Brake and accelerate slowly • Avoid sudden starts and stops which can lead to loss of control • Give yourself extra space in front and behind • Give yourself room to take evasive action in an emergency • Increasing following distance gives more time to react
