    2. SUCCESS TO SIGNIFICANCE Over two years ago, the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Central Florida envisioned taking the College to the next level… from success to significance and doing so in tight budget years. HOW?

    3. SUCCESS TO SIGNIFICANCE Integrating existing student support services Encouraging excellence in service to students Creating collaboration opportunities for the College of Education Creating the concept of the Office of Student Affairs

    4.         STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICES……BEFORE Minority Programs in Education (MPIE ) Individual Offices Recruitment activities Individual mission statements No vision statement     STUDENT SERVICES Physically separate service area for students Same questions asked of individual units (i.e., “student shopping”) Minimal collaboration between the three offices Different reporting structure   CLINICAL EXPERIENCES Physically separate service area Intern applications accepted without “checks and balances” (degree audits, “education pending” status, faculty signature) Student questions answered on basis of incomplete information Little or no collaboration between the three offices              

    5. TRANSITIONS The Dean of the College of Education had a vision… * ONE office of Student Affairs that would serve students in the College. In the College of Education renovation process , the Directors of Clinical Experiences, Minority Programs in Education, and Student Services were asked to collaborate on the design of the Office of Student Affairs. The 3 Directors had to consider form and function in designing physical space that would accommodate and combine three office staffs.

    6. A CHANGE IN THINKING RESULTED IN…..
