  2. Your Role • Serve as a resource • Teach sheep and goat subject matter to youth and volunteers • Provide support to members and leaders • Provide leadership to worthwhile learning opportunities for youth and volunteers • Lead by example

  3. Responsibilities • Stress the importance of developing a well rounded project • Discuss the importance of keeping records • Inform members of learning and personal development opportunities • Coordinate meetings for members and parents • Identify resources for 4-Hers and parents to use

  4. The First Step • Obtain a list of names, addresses, and telephone numbers of 4-H members enrolled in the project • Spend time familiarizing yourself with project literature and learn about project activities and opportunities • Secure project training materials • Know the expectations for project completion

  5. The Initial Meeting • Plan on organizing one • Consult your County Extension Agent • Set realistic goals • Use hands on activities

  6. Supervising Projects • Work with the family • Communicate openly • Discuss goals and how to achieve them • Develop a plan • Lead by example • Level of trust

  7. Project Check List • Schedule your visits • Pay attention to and inquire about the following: • Facilities (clean and functional) • General health • Feeding schedule (amount, type, ect…) • Weight • Showmanship

  8. Conclusion • The youth is the most important part of the project. • Practice what you preach… • Character education • Decision making • Leadership • Responsibility • With hard work, success is inevitable!
