Ford ii college week activities October 21st-25th • Monday – College Conversation Day Discuss College Experience with your Teachers • Tuesday – College Trivia Quiz – Winning class gets a prize • Wednesday – I Applied Day – Seniors Sign Posters in Commons of Colleges Applied to • Thursday – Door Decorating – Winning class gets a prize • Friday – College Apparel Day – Door Decorating Winner Announced – Trophy Presentation **Check out the barometer in the Commons with percentage of seniors who have applied** **Counselors will be available EVERYDAY during all lunch hours to assist students with college applications, FAFSA, and post-secondary questions** SENIOR GOAL: EVERY SENIOR SHOULD APPLY TO A COLLEGE BY OCTOBER 31ST

HOW TO GET MORE MONEY FOR COLLEGE Simple Steps to Apply for Federal Student Aid through FAFSA • Create FSA ID at: student.gov/fsaid • Your FSA ID allows you to electronically sign your FAFSA • Student and Parent both require FSA IDs • Complete FAFSA Application at: fafsa.ed.gov • Both parent’s and your social security numbers • Any untaxed income statements (i.e. child support – if applicable) • Current bank and asset statements (if applicable)

College is a post-secondary education • The term “college” refers to the attainment of valuable postsecondary credentials beyond Ford High School, including professional/technical certificates and academic degrees. • College is no longer just defined as an individual pursuing a degree at a two-year or four-year institution.

  14. Post-secondary options • Community College (2 year) • College or University (4 years) • Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce, Coast Guard • Trade/Vocational Schools • Cosmetology, Carpenters, Plumbers, Electrical Workers • Apprenticeship Programs • Enter the Workforce

College application • Applications are completed online • Pay application fee • Some schools have no application fee • Waiver for low income students may be available • Request transcript through Naviance • Early Action/Early Decision Date is November 1st – recommend all applications be submitted by October 31st • Some schools have deadlines for admission and financial aid • Others have rolling admissions (no deadline) • Research the school(s) you are applying to for deadlines

College visits Things to see and do when you visit a college: • Visit the college admission office • Take a campus tour • Meet with a financial aid officer • Meet a professor in your field of interest • Talk with current students • Look into extra curricular/athletic interests or student services • Check out various housing arrangements Sign up for College Visits through Naviance “Visiting colleges is an excellent way to weed through the propaganda and objectively learn about the campus atmosphere, the students, the environment, and the location of the college that you are considering.” ~ College Admissions Services Inc.
