In this presentation we will look at databases • Databases store articles on line. • They can be accessed by Athens Account. • They can be searched by key word. • They contain academic material. • Don’t Google – use the databases!
Athens Account • To access any of UEL electronic resources, you will need a username and password (Athens Account) • Your Athens account has been set up for you and the information email to you. • Username uel12u followed by your student number e.g. uel12u3321254 • Password your date of birth eg. 06-Mar-66
The following are useful databases for ADI Ebsco – journal articles (including business) Keynote - fashion marketing Nexis - newspapers Euromonitor – country reports and statistics Jstor – academic journal articles (including history) Project Muse – full text articles – Media and Cultural Studies Arts Bibliographies Modern – abstract database for art/photography
Accessing Databases Access databases by clicking on 1st letter of name For a list of electronic resources, click on Subject Page link, and access the Arts and Digital Industries page
Ebsco – full text journal articles Click on E for Ebsco
Click on off campus and you will be asked for Athens Account There is a Quick Guide available for each database
Click in box for Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete. You could also try Greenfile
Click in full text box and enter search terms. Click on Search
Ebsco Tips • Check the right hand side of the result screen to results spilt into ‘Subject’ or ‘Publication’ • Use the date option on the search interface to narrow down results.
Read article online or print, email or save. Save several articles in the folder and then email them all at one time.
Click on title to access report. Use index on right to navigate
Nexis for Newspapers. Click on N on A to Z list and choose Off Campus Narrow down by choosing Major Mentions Enter search terms
Narrow down further by choosing group of newspapers e.g. UK Broadsheets from Sources Click on Search Narrow down by date
Click on highlighted text to read it online. You can also save and email by clicking on icons on top right.
Euromonitor – for statistics and country reports. Click on E on A to Z list and enter Athens Account Do keyword search
From Countries and Consumers, choose Consumer Trends and Lifestyles
Select country from Consumer Lifestyles or Country Pulse for detailed reports
Jstor for academic articles. Access Jstor from A to Z list. Click on off campus and enter Athens Account. Enter search terms and click search
Project Muse – Click on P from A to Z list Click on browse and choose area
Referencing If you consult a source such as a journal and use it in your assignment, you must acknowledge this by referencing For information on using the Harvard style of referencing, see the library homepage and the Info Skills Tutorial. “Cite Them Right” is an excellent guide to referencing and the ebook is available from UEL PLUS, under Campus Bookmarks.

If article is not available elctronically, then type the title into the library catalogue to see if we have the hard copy. Click sfx button to see if article is available full text on another database
Interlibrary Loan • If we don’t have a book or journal at UEL, you can get request it via Interlibrary loan. • Please check the library website for instructions. See link below. • Interlibrary Loans
