1. Reputation and Virtue Mobile Application Pitch by Gabriel Rendek

2. The Purpose • A game, available for smartphone or tablet use, that allows the user to further explore Wycherley’s The Country Wife in a technological perspective • The target audience would be college students or people in general who have read The Country Wife or take an interest in British literature • It could be used as a study aid, as it includes trivia questions and quotations from the play • The game would be suitable for ages 17+ due to its sexual suggestiveness

3. The App Would Include • Levels that relate to each major plot point within the play >These levels would be played using the characters necessary for that particular job • A copy of the play would be included for reference for the user’s reading, as some levels are easy to beat if the user has prior knowledge of the play

4. Navigation and Home Screen The home screen would include a list of all the levels that were currently unlocked along with settings to turn off the music for quiet game play when necessary. Throughout the game, a button would be provided in the top left corner to allow for the user to return back to this main menu. Music for the background of this game would be pieces composed by Matthew Locke (1622-1677), a composer that was popular during the Restoration because of his work for King Charles II.

5. OBJECTIVE: Horner has to give the right amount of insults to Lady Fidget and Dainty Fidget so that they are insulted just enough for Sir Jasper to think he has nothing to worry about, and for the girls to be interested. DESIGN:The user is given a see-saw type of contraption where they have to provide insults to one side and flirtation to the other. The see-saw balance has to stay even in order to pass the level. The user has three chances to balance this out before it resets, symbolized by three playing cards, as Horner is invited over to play cards Illustrations by Gabriel Rendek Theme of Infidelity is evident here because we see Horner getting ready to make a cuckold of his friend Sir Jasper Level One

6. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Pinchwife, the user’s job is to dress up Mrs. Pinchwife as a man and protect her from Horner DESIGN:First, Mrs. Pinchwife is displayed in her bare dressings and the user must cover her in the correct garments to prepare her to go to the play; once she is in a suit, this portion is complete OBJECTIVE:At the play, Pinchwife has to “protect” his wife from Horner by stopping him from kissing her too many times. DESIGN: The player uses a finger to increase the distance between Horner and Mrs. Pinchwife; if he gets to close, that’s a squashed orange The user is given three oranges, and when they are all squished, the level is restarted Level Two Theme of Infidelity is evident here because we see Horner getting ready to make a cuckold of his friend Pinchwife this time

7. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Alithea, the user has to “prove” that Harcourt is really trying to steal her from Sparkish. To do this, she must gather enough “evidence” of this before the clock runs out DESIGN:The text of the play scrolls through the screen without stopping, and the user has to highlight all of the times that Harcourt has proven he is trying to make a move on Alithea The user would need to collect at least three examples, which would be represented by rings; Alithea’s engagement ring. Theme of overbearing male figures is evident here because Sparkish is completely overlooking what is so obvious to everyone around him; Harcourt is trying to steal his future wife. Level Three

8. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Lady Fidget, the user has to “score” three pieces of china without her husband catching on to the fact that she is having sex with Horner. DESIGN:To score a piece of china, Lady fidget must stay in Horner’s bedroom for ten seconds. It is her responsibility to lock the door and speak throughout the whole ordeal so as to not let Jasper become suspicious. She must “last” 30 seconds total in the bedroom to gain her three pieces of china and beat the level If she does not speak every five seconds or forgets to lock the door, Jasper comes in and the level resets Level Four Theme of Sexuality and Virtue is here because Lady Fidget doesn’t care that she’s cheating on her husband, as long as no one knows.

9. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Mrs. Pinchwife, the user has to play with a bit of The Country Wife Trivia in order to get Mrs. Pinchwife out of Pinchwife’s evil grasps. The user will have to know how Mrs. Pinchwife tricks her husband into taking her to Horner’s house DESIGN:Questions would include, “Which of the following best matches Mrs. Pincwife’s explanation of the letter?”, “Pinchwife takes his wife directly to her love, true or false.”, and “Who is the woman under the cloak and mask?” There would be a total of three questions, and all three must be correct in order to move on to the next level; every time an answer is incorrect, the level restarts with new questions The overbearing male figure is back in the form of Pinchwife this time, threatening to kill his wife if she doesn’t tell him about her feelings for Horner. Level Five

10. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Horner, the user has the responsibility of keeping his “ladies” quiet while he deals with the Pinchwife ordeal. He must provide them with alcohol, snacks, and attention; whichever they need. DESIGN:The ladies will be sitting around a table with a bubble above their heads, indicating what they need. Horner has to provide this in a timely fashion, while attending to Mrs. Pinchwife who is off in another room If the user messes up three times, neglecting Horner’s ladies, they lose a China piece. If three china pieces are lost, the level resets. Virtue is the underlying theme here, because the women in this room all care more about the eyes of their fellow men than the eyes of God. Level Six

11. OBJECTIVE:Playing as Lucy in this final level, the user has to clean up the messes of everyone else. By working through a maze, Lucy must collect four items: a playing card, an orange, a ring, and a china piece. Each piece that is collected solves a problem for the game. DESIGN:The Playing Card is “proof” that the wives are all staying virtuous. The Orange is evidence that Mrs. Pinchwife is staying true to Pinchwife. The Ring is for the idea that it was all a ploy to break up the engagement of Alithea and Sparkish. The China Piece is “proof” that Horner is “impotent”. The user must be careful though. If they pick up a joker, a squashed orange, a wedding band, or a broken china piece, the maze resets and the user has to start again with a new maze Illustrations by Gabriel Rendek Just about everyone here has lied about something, or cheated on their significant other. What is important is that they are all lying about it to protect their reputations. Level Seven
