What Is Title I? • Title I is a federally funded program that provides additional instructional opportunities for students who demonstrate that they have some gaps in their learning. Students are then provided with instruction that supports classroom core curriculum and also provides for a “catch-up” format to insure that foundational skills are solidified. • Bottom line: additional instruction beyond the core • Title I instruction is guided by classroom teachers and may be delivered by highly-qualified instructional assistants or classroom teachers. • These services are supplemental to the 90 minute reading block of instruction.
How Would My Child Qualify? • When a student demonstrates that there are gaps in learning, we establish other supports for them in addition to the regular core curriculum. • Star 360 Assessment • Common Assessment in the grade level • Teacher recommendation
What Does Title I Look Like at Brentwood? • Kindergarten-Fifth Grades: • The Title 1 program at Brentwood Elementary focuses on early literacy and math intervention in Kindergarten through Fifth grades. • We use research based literacy and mathematics instruction including software products, which are used to compliment the classroom core curriculum. • Students who qualify for Title services receive an additional 30 - 40 minutes of pull-out literacy and or math instruction during RTI (Response to Intervention) time that focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, number sense, and computation.
Parent Compact: • The Parent compact is a requirement for the recordkeeping part of the program • It is divided into three sections: • The Staff • The Student • The Parent/Family I support Brentwood Elementary. We care about YOU!
Parent Involvement • Volunteer at School • Communicate regularly with the teacher • Attend parent/teacher conferences • Be involved with their homework: • Is the homework getting done? • Is it done correctly? • Discuss with your child what they are doing in their classes • Don’t accept “Nothing” as an answer to your questions • Read with your child every night
Moving Out of Title 1 Students may be placed in and out of Title I services throughout the year depending on their benchmark assessments. • You will be notified: • If your student moves out of the Title I program, • Or if your child moves into more intensive Title I services.
