  3. Leaders • Appointed • Chosen by authority • Emerging • Chosen by peers

  4. Leadership Style • Authoritarian – quick decisions • Democratic – invites participation • Laissez-faire – gives up power • Balanced – task/relationships

  5. Self- Perception • Self- concept- how you perceive others the way they see and treat you. It also is the way you see yourself • It is also shaped by how you compare to others

  6. Self-fulfilling prophecy • You make a prediction about the outcome of a situation and act on it as if it was true. • Example: predicting you will fail a test before taking it • Can be both positive and negative

  7. Johari Window • Open- Known to you and to others • Hidden- Known to ONLY YOU! • Blind- Known to others but not you • Unknown- no one knows!

  8. What This Means • The most important component of communication is You!
