U.S. Textile Production Update • Fiber consumption – up 7% • Broadwoven fabrics – up 2.0%; apparel fabrics up double digits (carpet down 23%) • Knit fabric – up 24.7% • Yarn production – up 7.0% (cotton 16.2%; mmf 3.2%) • Shipments – up 9.1% - All Still Below 2008 Levels - • Corporate Profits: 3.9%/net sales (highest in 10 years) • BCG Study & Others: U.S. Manufacturing Renaissance?
Textile Trade Trends • “Good Apparel Imports” – use mostly U.S. fabric and yarn – at 14.9%, still below 15.9% in 2008 but growing. Volume up 14.4% so far this year. • China DOWN .5% YTD - was up 20% last year – 41% of U.S. apparel market ; long term trend neg. • Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia growing rapidly – but also Guatemala, El Salvador & Nicaragua • New interest in sourcing in Western Hemisphere/Magic Show • U.S. textile exports up 18%, now exceed 2008 levels ($20.6 billion).
