  2. What is Small Group Teaching? It is a teaching -learning activity in which a teacher interact with a small number of students (about 8 – 10)

  3. What is Tutorial ? • Tutorial is a teacher centered activity • Usually designed to fined out the extent and learning achieved by the students following a series of lectures. • Teacher is the authority • Students are observed and evaluated

  4. Characteristics of Small Group Teaching • Active participation • Face to face contact • Purposeful activity

  5. Advantages of Small Group Teaching • Active learning by students • Active participation by students • Facilitate problem solving

  6. Advantages ….. • The role of the teacher • as facilitator • Different resource materials • books, notes, manuals, journals, comments from teacher or students • Skill can be developed

  7. Disadvantage of Small Group Teaching • Time consuming • Resource materials increase the cost • Can not cover large number of students • Presentation of large amount of information is not possible

  9. The task of the Group • The objective and the purpose be explained • Task must be clearly defined • The role of the teacher should be clear • The role of the group members should be explained
