Tropical rainforest facts In the tropical rainforest the climate is warm and humid. An average of 50 to 260 inches of rainfall a year. A lot of tropical rainforest are located close to the equator. In the year 2011 6% of Earth’s land is covered with tropical rainforest. In the tropical rainforest the area is very green with plants and trees. Most tropical rainforest are very loud because of the animals. Tropical rainforest are being destroyed to build; houses, roads, buildings, and industrial countries.
Animals That Live In This Biome Sloths (Not all of the animals!!!!!) Monkeys Ocelot Jaguars Black Panthers Gorilla Anaconda
Producers and Consumers Producer - fungi First level consumer- insects Second level consumer- amphibians Third level consumer- birds
Tropical Fungi This organism can be different sizes and different colors. Fungi lives on trees and dead organisms. Fungi adapts in the rainforest because of its bright colors. This organism is a decomposer, so it eats dead organisms. Caterpillars mainly are the ones that consume fungi. Scientist cannot tell if fungi can communicate. The young of fungi looks the same as fully developed fungi but smaller and darker colors. Humans don’t have to be concerned abouut fungi because there is more than enough on earth .
Tropical Caterpillars Most of the caterpillars that live in the tropical rainforest are green or black and about an inch long. Caterpillars live in long grass, bushes , trees , and bushes. The green color on the caterpillar helps them camouflage in bushes, grass , and trees. Grass is mainly the food that is eaten by caterpillars. Amphibians and reptiles eat this organism. Baby caterpillars look like little maggots. Only some types of caterpillars are endangered so humans shouldn’t be worried as much. We can help this organism by not cutting down so many trees in the tropical rainforest.
Tropical Frogs Frogs that live in the rainforest are very colorful, and different sizes. The habitat of this organism is trees and bushes. They hide in tall grass too. The frogs in the rainforest camouflage with their surroundings. Bugs are the main topic of a frogs diet. Bigger birds and mammals that live in the tropical rainforest eat the frogs, and when the frogs die fungi eats the dead body. There are many different types of frogs. For example, the Leopard frog gives off a poisonous smell which is harmful if snorted for a long period of time. Frogs communicate by croaking (very loud). Tadpoles are baby frogs and they look ; very slimy, they look like they have a tail, and are green The most endangered species of frogs are, Panamanian golden frog, Wyoming toad, Cowan's Mantella and many more.
Toucans Toucans are very colorful. Their beak has over 3 colors and they are about 3ft. Long and their beak is 7 inches long!!! Most toucans live in tall trees but some feel more comfortable if they were lower, to get food. Toucans have three adaptations that help them survive. The first one is that they have bills in order to eat food. The second adaptation that they have is the claws on each leg.. This helps them stand on trees. The last one is the colors of their feathers changed, in order to blend into its surroundings. Toucans eat ;berries, amphibians , nuts ,and smaller mammals.(omnivores) Haws and jaguars are the predators of toucans. This organism will make loud noises and open its large beak to scare predators away. Toucans make a high pitched noise that's very distinctive then others. Younger toucans are black and white but they have only orange on his beak. Only some species of toucans are endangered.
