Getting Started • Open Read & Write Gold • Open Word • Click on textHELPdrop down arrow • Choose General Options
Change the Button Bar • Choose “Small icons without text” • Choose “Clear Style Color”
Speech Options • Click on the green Play button drop-down menu • Choose “Speech Options” • Click the Auto Read tab • Uncheck all the boxes
Spell Check • Type into a Word document • Make a few spelling errors • Word underlines errors in red • Click on the Spell Check button
Hear the Definitions • Click the Play button on the menu bar to hear the definition • Click the Change button to select the new word • Click Ignorebutton if you do not want to change anything • Error Type is displayed at the bottom
Spelling Options • Add word • Delete word • Settings • Add a list
Prediction • Click on the Predictionbutton • Right click on the prediction window • Check “Follow the Cursor” and “Speak the word when it is clicked” • Try it out!
PredictionOptions • Select “Prediction Options” • Check desired options • Alphabetical • Follow the cursor • Color • Show advanced options • Additional tabs
Dictionary • Select a word • Click on the Dictionary icon • Select a definition • Click on the Play button to hear the definition
WebDefinitions • Select “Web Definitions” from the drop down menu • Select a word in your document • Click on the Dictionaryicon • Google automatically defines the word for you!
Picture Dictionary • Click on the Picture Dictionary icon • Double click a word in a document to see the associated picture • Double click on the picture to insert it into the document
Word Wizard • Select a word • Click the Word Wizard button • A dialog box pops up • You can discover related words, phrases, etc.
Homophones • Click on the Show button and all the homophones will be colored in blue • Click on the Sounds Like button, and a dialog will pop up • It will show you all the possible definitions of possible homophones for a word • You can replace a word with the word that was intended
SoundsLike • Click the Play button to hear the definition • Choose Ignore or Change • Check Always Ignorethis word in future for common words! • Click the Hide button to turn off the homophone support
NEW! Verb Checker • Enter a verb to see how it is conjugated for past, present, and future tense
Calculator • Click the Calculator drop-down to choose Standard or Scientific • It will speak the numbers and the solution!

Screenshot Reader • Can be used to read even locked PDF documents • Open a webpage or a PDF • Click the Screenshot Reader icon • Click and drag a box over a portion of text
Speechmaker • Open a document • Select text • Click the Speechmaker button • Continue with on-screen prompts to convert text to speech
Daisy Reader • Click on the DAISY icon • Find a DAISY file • Adjust display settings
ScanningOptions • Be sure you have selected “Scan to Word” • Select “Scanning Options” • Select Output Settings tab • Click to choose a location to save to
Scan • Place a document in the scanner • Click the Scanbutton and follow scanning prompts • Use any of the features in Read & Write Gold with your scanned document
Fact Tools • Use the Fact Finder, Fact Folder, and Fact Mapper to do research and keep track of bibliographical information
Screen Masking • Screen Masking offers many options for highlighting specific areas of the screen
Translator • Select “Single Word” or “Paragraph” translation • Select some text • Click the Translator button
PDF Aloud • Click the PDF Aloud button • Choose a PDF file on your computer • Use the buttons to hear text read aloud
Highlighter Tools • Select text • Click a highlighter color • Click the Collect Highlights button • Choose colors to collect • Highlights will be pasted into a new Word document
Vocabulary • Click the Vocabulary button • Add words to the list . You can click “with images” or leave them out. • Click OK • Read & Write will automatically generate a list in a Word document
Word Cloud • Select some text or a word list • Click the Word Cloud button • Click “Create” • A separate window will appear with all the words. You can click on the words to hear them spoken.
Voice Note • Click inside a document • Click the Voice Note icon • Click the Start Recording button and record your message • Click Replay to hear your message • Click Save to save onto your computer or Insert to include it in your document
Summary • Copy and paste text into Word • Click the Summary button • Choose the percentage in the drop-down and click OK • A summary will be pasted into a new Word document
