Acceleration Mechanism of Horizontal Ion Flow in the Ionosphere of VenusHiroyuki Shinagawa (NICT) • Acceleration mechanism of horizontal ion flow has been a controversial issue since PVO. • Two mechanisms: (1) Day-to-night pressure gradient force (2) Viscous interaction of the solar wind with the ionosphere • Various model calculations (>10)indicate that both mechanisms are contributing to the acceleration of the ionosphere. Relative importance is discussed. [Terada et al., 2009]
