  2. Animals • Raccoon- hands are so nimble they can unlace a shoe unlatch a cage and deftly retrieve coins as thin as dimes from your shirt pocket. • Hutia- are nocturnal and are the only land mammal native to the Bahamas. • Wild boar- naturally timid and, run away at the sight of people

  3. Pictures Many people travel to the Bahamas. Some things that people do are swimming with the dolphins. The Bahamas have many beaches for people to enjoy.

  7. Culture • Black people make up four fifths of the population. • Many were slaves. • Kids from ages five to 14 have to go to school.

  9. History • The earliest permanent European settlement occurred in 1647 on the island of independence from the United Kingdom. • In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain with three ships, seeking Asia. • 1666 about five hundred people lived on the Bahamas.

  10. Geography • By Cuba and the United States • It is in central America and the Caribbean. • Coast line is 3,542km

  11. Fun Facts • Has 700 islands and only 40 of them have people • No legal drinking age • 3rd longest barrier reef
