Meeting purpose This is an informational meeting to inform returning parents of: • Bell Schedule • Bus Schedule • Office Hours • Class Offerings • Uniform Updates • Tardy Policy • Absence Policy • Where to Find Academic Calendar Information • BSSCA Graduation Requirements • Overview of Connector Responsibilities – Separation of HS and MS Connectors • ARC – Enrichment Program Note: Please write down any questions you may have throughout the presentation as we will be taking questions on an individual basis once the presentation is complete.

  6. High School Office Hours • The high school office will open each day at 7:30am and will close at 4:30pm. On Minimum days the office will close at 1:00pm. • Maria Lizalde is the High School Office Manager • Juan Corona is the High School Office Assistant

Uniform Updates • Uniforms are the same as last year • Navy Blue Polo Shirts • Kaki pants with the BSS logo • All navy blue sweatshirt/jacket • Shoes are your choice of color but they need to be comfortable, no high heels and you must be able to run in your shoes • No piercings for boys • Only ear piercing for girls • No visible body piercings allowed • Nail polish okay • Natural looking make-up okay • Natural hair color only • Clean cut facial hair for males • Non uniform items will be confiscated and given back the following Tuesday

  9. Tardies • "5" tardies per week--> Sat School Detention, 2.5 hours, bimonthly (held for 5 hours) • Cannot participate in any school activities, including Senior Graduation • 3Sat Detention misses-->Attendance Board with monthly hearing (Judge Johnson, Ari, Melissa) • Cleared every Monday

  10. Detention for Inappropriate Behavior • Detention for Bigger Classroom Offenses: Tuesday and Thursday 3:30-5:30 • Teacher Connection during Detention required • Parent will be notified

  11. Academic Calendar • You can find the academic calendar online • We can also send it to you via email

  12. Required Coursework • 220 Credits to Graduate • All students must complete the A-G Required Coursework along with one PE course and 60 credits of electives. (for more detailed A-G information please see www.ucop.edu/agguide/)

  13. Additional Requirements • 1. Independent Reading: Earn 1400 points on Reading Counts • 2. 50 service hours completed at two organizations • 3. Five post-secondary visits • 4. ELA usage and Writing proficiency test passed each year • 5. Have completed and taken two actions steps on viable post-secondary plan

  14. Class Matriculation • In order to progress through the grades, students must make adequate progress to be eligible for the next grade level. Students must earn 50 credits to be considered a Sophomore, 100 credits to be considered a Junior, and 150 credits to be considering a Senior.

  15. The Connector • The role of the connector will be an individual who will be available to assist in communication between each student and their teachers, administrators, parents, coaches, and prospective colleges • Connectors will connect students to all student facing functions of Bright Star • Connectors will ensure the success of their students while they are enrolled at Bright Star and transitioning into life beyond

  17. Arc Enrichment Programming • We will be selecting classes based on student requests • Students have a voice at orientation to decide which classes they would like to see offered
