    1. Swearing An Oath James 5:12

    2. Does James Condemn All Swearing? Notice that Jesus swore to tell the truth under oath. Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

    3. Does James Condemn All Swearing? Notice that Jesus swore to tell the truth under oath. Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. In Marks account Jesus answered, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. (Mk 14:62).

    4. Does James Condemn All Swearing? Notice that Jesus swore to tell the truth under oath (Mat 26:63). In Marks account Jesus answered, I am(Mk 14:62). Paul swore by Gods name against his own soul that he had not visited Corinth, for their own good. 2 Cor 1:23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

    5. Does James Condemn All Swearing? Notice that Jesus swore to tell the truth under oath (Mat 26:63). In Marks account Jesus answered, I am(Mk 14:62). Paul swore by Gods name against his soul that he had not visited Corinth for their own God (2 Cor 1:23). Jesus used similar language, to that of James, when he rebuked the swearing that was going on in His day, but notice the underlined portion. Mat 5:33-37 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

    6. What Kind of Swearing Does James Condemn? Paul specifies the kind of swearing forbidden. 1 Tim 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

    7. What Kind of Swearing Does James Condemn? Paul specifies the kind of swearing forbidden (1 Tim 1:10). In the fourth commandment in the Old Testament Decalogue, God established a very important spiritual principle. Ex 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

    8. What Kind of Swearing Does James Condemn? Paul specifies the kind of swearing forbidden (1 Tim 1:10). In the fourth commandment in the Old Testament Decalogue, God established a very important spiritual principle (Ex 20:7). To swear by heaven, earth, or any other similar vow is meaningless.

    9. We need to take the Lords name seriously. To use Gods name frivolously, flippantly, or profanely is to take the reverence away from God.

    10. We need to take the Lords name seriously. To use Gods name frivolously, flippantly, or profanely is to take the reverence away from God. If we say yes we need to keep our vow, if we say no then likewise we need to mean no.

    11. A Sacred Pledge Each of us who are/have been married have made a vow to remain faithful until death. Mt 19:5,6 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Christ also expects a vow to be made. Eph 5:31,32 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Gods vow (promise) comes to those who believe. Ga 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. Gods promise comes to those who repent. 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Gods promise comes to those who confess the name of Jesus. Ac 8:35-37 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Gods promise comes to those who are baptized. Ac 2:39-41 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
