  2. Introduction If a physician suspects a patient might have possibilities of a high level of inflammation in their body, they prescribe them to get a CRP blood test done. The liver produces C-reactive protein in response to any inflammation in the body. Thus, a CRP test helps identify any underlying cause of body inflammation due to an infection or chronic disease. The results of this test do not point out the exact cause of inflammation. However, it helps the physician diagnose probable causes of inflammation and treat the patient accordingly. If a person notices any unusual and persistent changes in their body causing them discomfort, they should consult a physician who might prescribe them a blood CRP test.

  3. What is a C-Reactive Protein? C-reactive Protein, also known as Pentraxin 1, is a non-glycosylated protein and an acute health reactant, i.e., a biomarker for inflammation.

  4. What is a C-reactive protein (CRP) test A tissue injury or infection causes inflammation as the body tries to protect itself. CRP protein gets released into a patient’s blood when their body starts to react to such inflammation. A C-reactive protein test is done to measure the level of CRP in a patient’s bloodstream.

  5. What happens during a CRP test During a CRP test, a diagnostic healthcare worker collects the patient’s blood sample from a vein in their arm. This test does not need any meal restrictions and can be done at any time of the day. The overall process takes only a few minutes.

  6. How should I prepare for a CRP test? A patient does not need any special preparation for a CRP test. Is the CRP test risky? CRP test is a normal blood test with very minimal risk. The patient might feel some discomfort and a slight sting due to the insertion of the blood-collecting needle, which goes away quickly.
