SWINEFLU and ITSPROTECTION HOW MUCH ARE WE EDUCATED ABOUT H1N1 FLU? By ZuzanaJakubcin
HISTORY OF THE SWINE FLU • 1ST Outbreak came in 1918. Called SPANISH FLU. 20 million people died. 1st time the swine flu was diagnosed among pigs, yet not certain on whether it was transmitted from pigs to humans or humans to pigs and then it mutated. No antibiotics. • 2nd Outbreak came in 1976.An army recruiter Fort Dix from NJ complained of feeling tired and died next day. Many more soldiers hospitalized. 40 million people vaccinated,532 developed GBS( Guilian- Barre Syndrome)- the neurological disorder. The vaccination has increased the risk of developing the syndrome. • 3rd Outbreak came in 2009.Brought from Mexico. The virus became PANDEMIC- spreading worldwide. Pandemic does not mean it is serious or has something to do with the fear and death.
SYMPTOMS • High fever (100F and higher) • Persistant cough • Nasal secretion • Fatique, headache • Some people may have nausea, vomiting and diarhea • Some develop severe respiratory symptoms • When patients get pneumonia (bacterial secondary infection) death ussually occurs from those kind of infections, SECONDARY INFECTIONS • For most people it is mild • Patients with higher risk: young children, pregnantwomen, people with chronic disease
DIAGNOSES AND TREATMENT • Swab test • Blood test • New test developed by CDC , available only to the military • Treated with H1N1 vaccine • Reduce the flu in an early stages within 48 hours from the beginning of the symptoms with TAMIFLU and RELENZA. • Secondary infection occurs, treated with antibiotics
H1N1 VACCINE • Some call it savior, some are resistant to it • 2types of the vaccine: one with thimerosal and one without thimerosal- mercury containing preservative • Components: squalene, aluminium, ethylen glycol (antifreeze),formadeldehyde, phenol, and even antibiotics like neomycin and streptomycil. • Dangerous squaleneadjuvants are not allowed in U.S vaccines yet. These adjuvants would definitely enhance(turbo charge) the person’s immune response to the vaccination.Adjuvants are supposed to rush the jo (but not more safely)
3 BILLION VACCINE PROJECT • Vaccines are made by 5 companies. CSL Limited,MedImmuneLLC,Novartis, SanofiPasteurs Inc and the recently added one Glaxo Smith Kline. • Only SanofiPasteurs and Glaxo –Smith Kline are the US companies, the rest are Swiss, Australian • The most expensive massive vaccination campaign in the history of our nation • The vaccines have been tested only on few people through the weeks. Many problems that may occur will be developed later • US have ordered over 120 million doses, the process has slowed down and so far only 14 %, 17 million has been delivered. • Shortage of Vaccines. People waiting in lines. • Many people have been turned back
PROCESS • Virus is grown in eggs. It needs living host to progress, and eggs are providing an ideal sterile environment for the virus. • 3 months it takes for the virus to progress inside of the egg • Egg farmers among first people to receive vaccine. • Millions of eggs are used every day for the production
DOES ANYONE HAVE TO GET IT? • Military personel is required to receive it • NY State Health workers have been rrequired to get vaccinated othervise they will loose their jobs • Massive protests in washington Dc andAlbany, the right to choose has been pushed to the side here.
FORMS OF VACCINE • 2 TYPES: Nasal spray and Injection • NASAL SPRAY: should be used in people ages 2- 49, who do not have the health problems. It contains the live virus. • INJECTION: contains the dead virus • It is recommended for children to get the two doses of swine flu vaccine. • You can combine live and dead at the same time, but you can not combine live vaccines together. • Seasonal vaccine also recommended. For children it would be 2 more doses of this one. All together 4 doses for the flu. It is a scary scenario.
CURRENT SITUATION • CDC (Center of Disease Control and Prevention) has stated on their website, the influenza activity has decreased. It is spread in 32 states, 11 states decline comparing to last week • US is the only country in the world that chose not to test people. • CDC estimates, since April234 laboratory confirmed deaths, and estimates about 3,500 people total deaths • President Obama declared in October national Emergency in people infected with swine flu • Since they stop testing people, it is really hard to determine the numbers. • Journalist Investigator Sheryl Atkinson reports, that in California were 18,700 people tested , 86% did not even have a flu, and the rest had either seasonal or swine flu. • Many doctors are saying here that whatever flu symptoms you have it is definitely a swine flu, if it is mild, just take it as a virus, go home • Swine flu around the world, spreading into every country
CONCLUSION • Get educated about vaccines and the swine flu vaccine to make a right decision • Wash your hands always, • Avoid crowded places • Try to bust your system with less sugar • Eat more vitamin D, vitamin C
