  1. Research paper TITLE PAGE: Barnhart 1 Title (Centered, about 1/3 down the page, proper capitalization, Times New Roman 20) (Bottom right corner, Times New Roman 12) Name Class Period Due date

  2. Research paper FIRST PAGE: Barnhart 2 Most know that having clean water is an issue in third world countries, but few realize that this issue is beginning to emerge in other areas as well. This research paper starts again with my header then goes right to a grabber; notice how it is double spaced consistently

  3. Barnhart 3 Large utility companies, like Aqua America, are starting to charge more in order to make changes that are necessary to improve their pipelines. Another utility company, United Water, has announced a substantial price hike for 2008; they are asking customers to pay 28 percent more for the same services they are accustomed to (Lavelle 5). Research paper SECOND PAGE: This is just an excerpt from a longer paragraph; this is what a paraphrase would look like. See how it matches the Works Cited page?

  4. Research paper WORKS CITED: Barnhart 3 Works Cited “The Future of Water.” 20 April 2008 <www.epa/water/org >. Lavelle, Bob. “Waning Water and What It Means in America.” Time 5 February 2008: 46-50. This is only PART of the Works Cited page, but note how it is set up (alpha. order and consistent double spacing) and how it matches with my paraphrase earlier.

  5. Research paper –later on the THIRD PAGE: The Environmental Protection Agency believes that these suggestions will make people more open to paying for water, as stated by Benjamin Grumbles, the EPA assistant administrator for water: “The more people understand the true value of water as the lifeblood of the community, and the value of the infrastructure as the organs and bones that help the system, the more they’ll realize the prices need to reflect that” (“The Future of Water” 8). This is just an excerpt from a longer paragraph; this is what a direct quote would look like. See how it matched the Works Cited Page?

  6. Research paper CONTENT Do you remember the four pieces of content development to include in a strong research paragraph? 1)Paraphrase—needs to be cited!! 2) direct quotation—needs to be cited!! 3) common knowledge 4) my analysis Which should you have most of?

  7. 1) paraphrase and 2) direct quotation—BOTH need to be cited!! 3) common knowledge 4) my analysis (use this the most) • Although most people don’t consider it, education is very different in Aruba. Where American students attend an elementary, middle, or high school, students in Aruba might choose a program called quick notes. Quick notes is a school where the kids go to school for three hours just taking notes about mathematics, reading, English, science, and geography. Besides quick notes, there are separate schools for advanced learning school and learning support. The advanced school is for those who excel in the subjects they wish to take. They know if they are in this school because when they are younger their parents may fill out a sheet that evaluates them; a score sheet filled out by teachers confirm their enrollment in the advancedschool. If they do not go to this school, they will send them to another school that fits. They are able to do this because, ‘The money earmarked for education is higher than the average Caribbean/ Latin American region”(“Aruba” 2).Not only do they have the option to go to a quick notes, advanced, or learning support school, they may attend a private school. After attending a secondary school they can pursue education further through a teachers’ college or the University of Aruba (“Aruba”2). All of that shows that Aruba is more than just a destination; it is a place that provides a very good education for those who seek it.

  8. What to cite STATISTIC SPECIFIC EXAMPLE AUTHOR’S ANALYSIS

  9. What to cite A statistic about global warming would look something like this: “Measurements taken between 1957 and 1975 show that the amount of carbon dioxide in the air had increased from 312 to 326 parts per million (ppm) during this period, a jump of approximately 5%” (“Greenhouse Effect” 1).

  10. What to cite A specific example about deforestation would look like this: “The World Bank has plans to expand the logging industry in the Congo Basin, the second-largest tract of tropical forest on the planet, with a possible 60-fold increase on present levels” (Furniss 1).

  11. What to cite An author’s analysis on Chernobyl could look like this: “The Three Mile Island accident in 1979 would have been immeasurably more serious if the products of the core meltdown had escaped to the atmosphere” (“Chernobyl Accident” 1).
