Introductory Humor Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. - Groucho Marx A guy goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, your going to have to help me. Every morning I wake up convinced that I wrote Lord of the Rings."The doctor nods and replies, "Don't worry, you've just been Tolkien in your sleep." Thus, adopt a textbook and the sooner the better!
Why is timely submission important? • Higher Education Reauthorization Act • Listing in online schedule of classes • ISBN, price, author, title • Timely notice to students • Cost of books-gives students options • Preparation for study • The right thing to do
Timely submissions critical • Online entry of textbook adoptions • The Registrar can obtain this information and place it on a publicly available website • Students can view required materials when making course selections if they choose • Students can shop around and any bookstore can stock these books to ensure good prices • UIC Bookstore can know that a book will be reused and keep used books on hand
Online entry • Fall and summer student registration begins April 1 • Spring registration begins November 1 • The point of registration is when textbook adoptions are to be on the online schedule of classes • Adoptions should thus be settled prior to April 1 and November 1 each cycle
Web page found at Registrar site • http://registrar.uic.edu • Select Faculty, then Textbook Adoptions • “Bluestem” access using netid and password • Staff or department reps can enter via Bluestem and enter information on your behalf • If you have no materials required, enter at this site to indicate 0 (zero) books required.
