Past Tense Verbs • Past tense verbs tell about something that happened in the past. • The past could be yesterday, last year, last week, an hour ago. • Usually we add “-ed” to the verb to show past tense: • Yesterday, I helped the teacher. • Last week, I studied for my test.
But… • there are some verbs that are past tense and don’t follow the “-ed” rule. • They are special or irregular verbs.
These are some irregular verbs: • Present tense: come • Past tense: came (not comed) • On Tuesday, a visitor came to our classroom. • Present tense: say • Past tense: said • Yesterday, we said we would walk to school. • Present tense: throw • Past tense: threw • She threw the ball to the pitcher.
