STUDY SKILLS: Reading • “Students with learning problems must be taught strategies to help them acquire information quickly from a variety of printed materials.” (Cecil D. Mercer, 2011). • SQ3R • Survey: pre-reading; scanning reading material to determine major points • Questions: turning the title, headings, and subheadings into questions. • Read: looks for answers to previewed questions; reads one section at a time; rereads parts that are not clear; takes notes • Recite: seeing, saying, and hearing • Review: ongoing process; verifies answers during the rereading portion • SQW3R is a derivation of SQ3R wherein students write questions after each subheadings. • (Mercer, Mercer, & Pullen, 2011) abd_summer2013
STUDY SKILLS: Spelling Spot the word and say it. Picture the word. Eyes closed. Look to see if the visual is correct. Look away and write the word. Examine the spelling by checking.
