  2. Online Registration • EVERY STUDENT MUST REGISTER online for field experience! • https://cehd.gmu.edu/endorse/ferf

  3. Placement Options • Option 1: Arrange your own placement • Only allowed if you are a current contracted employee of the public school system! • Substitute teachers cannot arrange their own placements with the public schools. • Must be at an accredited school

  4. Placement Options • Option 2: Request (online) and the Clinical Practice Specialist will arrange the placement for you • There are NO location preferences.

  5. Registration Deadlines • Fall- Register by September 15 • Spring- Register by February 15

  6. Communicating with the School • Be polite, courteous, and professional in your correspondence with them!

  7. Communicating with the School • Things to mention in your email to the school contact person: • Your name • Preferred subject area • How many hours of observations you need to complete • He or she will put you in contact with a teacher • Give the teacher a copy of your syllabus

  8. Working Out a Schedule • Be flexible when scheduling your observations • Do NOT drop by unannounced. • Be patient

  9. Canceling • If for some reason you need to cancel your placement, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL and the Clinical Practice Specialist.

  11. 10 Tips for Success • Dress PROFESSIONALLY! • Be on your most responsible, courteous behavior. • Arrive early for your scheduled observations. • Ask the teacher to sign the documentation form AFTER your observations are complete. • Be respectful of your host’s teaching style. • Follow along with class activities. • NO cell phones/texting, and NO gum. • Stay engaged; take notes. • Ask questions of your host teacher. • Remember to conduct yourself well and make it a meaningful experience.

  12. Documentation • Documentation forms are available on the Field Experience Registration website: • http://cehd.gmu.edu/teacher/clinical-practice/ • They should be turned in to your instructor if he or she requests them.
