What is EDDY?. EDDY is a programme that delivers personal development programs for young people aged 12 to 17.The programmes centre on developing team building, communication skills and raising confidence and awareness.. 3. What is EDDY? EDDY takes around 160 young people from Co Durham and Darlington, away from crime and anti social behaviour.
The programme includes activities such as climbing, Abseiling, walking and Ghyll Scrambling. In addition to the “making a difference workshops”
4. What is EDDY? EDDY also selects about 30 of the young people each year and takes them through a drug and social awareness course.
These young people then become peer leaders on the following years programme.
5. Who runs the programme ? The programme is coordinated by a police officer and is managed by a team of volunteers. Young people are an integral part of the team
The volunteers are from many walks of life, Police officers and staff, Fire officers, Youth Engagement Service. Exceptional people who want to help Young People
6. How does EDDY provide the activities? EDDY has a number of volunteers who have skills in outward bound activities.
These skills have been formalised into qualifications with training assisted by funding from the programme.
The programme also hires in activity leaders from private companies.
The programme has its own AALA Licence
7. What do the young people gain from EDDY? The young people gain confidence and introduction to discipline and stability that is there to help them.
An awareness of the issues surrounding Drug and Social problems in their community.
How to live by a set of rules that THEY create.
8. What do the young people gain from EDDY? What its like to live in an environment without fear of bullying or prejudice.
An interaction with authority that shows them that it can be worked with, not against.
That there are activities that they can take part in and excel.
Most importantly - Have FUN
9. Who participates in EDDY? Young people are referred to the scheme by many agencies, Police, Schools, Positive futures, Social workers.
Young People who are low in esteem, Victims of Crime or Bullying or are at risk of offending but have not done so.
All of them are amazing young people who just need a chance.
