HIV/AIDS ACTIVITIES - 1[Community Awareness & Preventive Education) • 03/08/04: Talk on HIV/AIDS – SDA School • 04/19/04: Q&A about HIV/AIDS – Calvary School. • 07/26/04: HIV Prevention – Youth Seminar • 08/16/04: HIV Brochure distribution in the Community • 10/14/05: Started referral to Health Educators of all STI patients. • 03/2005: STI/HIV/AIDS for Girl students in (5) Schools – Calvary, Jabro, ECHS, SDAand KAPHS
HIV/AIDS ACTIVITIES – 2[Capacity Building for Providers] • 04/08/04: HIV Update & AHP CME. • 07/26/04: HIV/AIDS Program for PHC Providers. • 12/01/04: World AIDS Day: Providers celebrated with Community. • 03/24/05: World TB Day – Talk on HIV Prevention in TB patients to audience including providers.
HIV/AIDS ACTIVITIES – 3[Providers participation on/off Island] • 04/2004: CHAMPs AC Meeting in Emeryville. • 05/2004: AETC Training in Guam. • 02/2005: HIV/AIDS Development Workshop by WHO & SPC in Majuro. • 03/2005: Chuuk AETC Training in Majuro.
HIV/AIDS ACTIVITIES – 4[Future Activities] • Participate 04/2005 April Health Month for Community Awareness & Preventive Activities on STI/HIV/AIDS. • Participation in CHAMPs Project of AAPCHO for another three years, to provide Capacity building in HIV/AIDS for Medical Providers, & provide Health Education in the Community. • Continue routine preventive works.
Challenges & Barriers • Challenges: • Specimen sending • Funding resources to buy test kits • Administrative apathy • Barriers: • Stigma • Lack of politically correctness • Low prevalence
Prospective • More on AHP. • More on Laboratory methods for local lab technicians. • More on patient counseling. • More on understanding grants by program workers. E.g. HIV Prevention, Title II etc. • Active participation by CPG members.
