ISC received more than 6800 data files from 120 agencies • 9% of the data files arriving to the ISC required manual intervention. • 9 new parsers were written and more than 70 were modified. • ISC’s data base has increased by 3.3 Gb (out of a total of 34 Gb). ISC analysts manually review every event that complies with one of the following conditions: • The reported magnitude is higher than 3.5. • The event was reported by at least 2 agencies • The event was recorded at a distance greater than ~1000 km. • An ISC solution is provided when: • There are more than 4 phase readings (P or S). • The solution converges successfully. • ABOUT 3500 EVENTS WITH MORE THAN 150000 ASSOCIATED READINGS ARE REVIEWED EACH MONTH Data Processing and Analysis ISC's EC & GC meetings - Chile 2005

  7. Since October 2004, after 3 years of intensive development work, all data review and analysis are routinely performed with the modernized ISCloc software, replacing the 20+ years old REVISER Bulletin Review and Analysis ISC's EC & GC meetings - Chile 2005

  13. Over 1,000,000 accesses to the ISC website (24% more than in 2004 and 3 times more than in 2000). More than 70,000 entries searching for earthquake information. About 10,000 inquiries about seismic stations About 5,000 inquiries about bibliographical data (decrease by almost 30% compared with 2003). About 11,000 downloads of documents and programs.   18. The exchange rate US$ / £ increased significantly once again from $1.77 to $1.92 at the year end. In fact, expressed in British Pounds, actual contributions from institutional members fell 4.0% from 2003 to 2004 despite the increase in the unit rate of membership. At year-end, some 9.6% of 2004 membership contribution invoices were unpaid. No unpaid contributions were written off because eventual payment is anticipated in all cases. Income from printed products was close to the budget and CD sales were greater than expected. Total income in £was less than expected by almost 10%. INCOME ISC's EC & GC meetings - Chile 2005

  21. PERSONNEL: Salaries, Pension, Recruiting, Repatriation. • Salaries follow the UK academic salaries scales. • Personnel costs were 3.2% less than planned due to the early leave of Dr. R. Luckett. • OTHER OVERHEAD: Building maintenance; computing expenses, travel by both the staff and the committee and the cost of consumables. • The refurbishments budget of £6,000 was not used. • The staff travel expenses were supported from other sources. PRODUCTION: • For the first time in almost 30 years the printing was carried out in the United Kingdom with significant amount saved. • The decision to publish 3 times a year without phase data was put into operation. • The cost of production in 2003 was £35,373 and in 2004 it fell by more than half to £16,133. • BAD DEBTS • Mainly unpaid invoices for Bulletins and CDs. • The LOSS on income over expenditure for Dec. 31, 2004 is £9,700 Expenditures ISC's EC & GC meetings - Chile 2005

  24. RESERVE FUNDS: £ 30,000 for bank balances required for the exchange rate. £ 60,700 for computer replacement funds. NET VALUE of ISC’s TOTAL ASSETS: It is the difference between all assets and liabilities and decreased from £401,500 to £393,000 during 2004. Estimate Budget 2005-2007 • The estimations are based on the following assumptions: • The annual subscription rates for members are at the rates agreed at the Governing Council meeting in Sapporo, 2003. We assumed a similar 5% increase for the 2007 rate. • We assume a 3% annual inflation rate for materials. • Personnel costs allow for an annual increase of 5%, which reflects additional performance, output and services. • Building expenses include some minor refurbishments and general maintenance. • Travel costs for 2005 include fares to Chile for ISC staff and Executive Committee members to attend the IASPEI meeting (although travel grants have been applied for). Estimate Budget 2005-2007 • We assume that 3 agencies (units) will stop their subscription to the ISC. • The Member Contributions are calculated at the exchange rate at the time of writing this document, which was £1 = $1.9 . • A drop in the income is predicted in the number of CDs being sold since each Bulletin will now include a CD containing the entire dataset. • A grant of £45,000 from the Royal Society has been included in 2005 figures but no other grants have been accounted for although they will be sought. • Computing costs include the cost of new equipment this year mainly from the grant of the royal society. • Personal costs are based on expenses during 2004 when we employed Dr. R.
