1. William F. Cody (1846 –1917)
2. Later to be known as “Buffalo Bill” William Frederick Cody was born in the Iowa Territory on February 26, 1846.
3. At the age of 14, Bill Cody rode for the Pony Express
4. 1868 - 1872 As a scout in the Fifth Calvary in the United States Army, Bill Cody won the congressional Medal of Honor in 1872.
5. During this time Bill married Louisa Federici – March 6, 1866 The Cody Family
6. In 1872 he appeared on stage for the first time playing himself in “Scouts of the Prairie”
7. The Wild West Show was inaugurated in Omaha in 1883
8. 1889 – Wild West fever swept Europe Bill took his show to France, Spain, and Italy, where Pope Leo XIII blessed the members of the cast.
9. Cody, Wyoming Bill Cody established a ranch near the Big Horn basin in Wyoming.
In 1895 he helped lay out a nearby town which beared his name.
10. William F. Cody died in Denver, January 10, 1917
11. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center Founded in 1917
Located in Wyoming on the doorstep of Yellow Stone National Park.
