What Do Seeds Need? An Experiment for Elementary Science Classrooms
What makes plants grow? On a piece of paper Let’s write down some ideas.
Let’s start some of our own seeds and see what happens! • Here is what we need: • Two zip-lock baggies, stapler, staples, paper towels, seed (several different seeds for contrast), 1/2 cp. water, tape.
Let’s get started! • Lay two paper towels flat inside zip-loc baggies. • Staple across the bags width wise about four inches from top, so staples are about an 1/8 inch apart. • Place seeds across baggies in organized groups, or random pattern. • Add ¼ cup water to each bag and zip shut. • Tape one bag to classroom window, place one bag in a dark closet.
Write down some thoughts on what is going to happen in these bags.
