  1. So you’ve sinned. Now what?

  2. Let’s define Sin I John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.

  3. Have you sinned? • Christians sin: I John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. I John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

  4. What should we do when we’ve sinned? 1. Seek forgiveness from God with a humble heart, bringing the fruits of repentance. 2. Go and sin no more. 3. Put it behind you and continue working for the Lord.

  5. 1. Seek forgiveness Luke 7:37-38 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.

  6. Be humble 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. James 4:6-8 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

  7. James 4:7-8 7. Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. • This takes self-examination and denial of self.

  8. Luke 7:39 39. Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” Do we look down on sinners? Other Christians that sin or worldly people?

  9. 2. Go and sin no more • Jesus forgave many sins while on earth. • Each time he expected the person to sin no more. John 8:10-11 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

  10. Make sure we don’t sin again Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? • We’ve been freed from sin to serve righteousness. Servants of sin die, servants of righteousness live forever.

  11. Romans 13:11-13 11. And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer then when we first believed. 12. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13. Let us walk properly, as in day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in licentiousness and lewdness, not in strife and envy.

  12. Romans 13:14 14. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. • Awake from sleep (knowing the time) • cast off works of darkness, • put on armor of light, • walk properly, • put on Lord Jesus Christ, • and make no provision for the flesh.

  13. 3. Put it behind you and continue working for the Lord. Philippians 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. But indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

  14. Paul continues still Philippians 3: 13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

  15. Why is it any different for Christians? • Non-Christians once they are saved have a great zeal for God and begin working. • It is not a strange thing to us. • When we have sinned as Christians and then come to repent should it be any different?

  16. Hebrews 4:16 16. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. • Do we have a tendency to wallow in our sins and guilt even after seeking God with humbleness and asking for forgiveness? Do we then neglect our service to God?

  17. Continue working Titus 3:14 And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

  18. What we looked at today: • If we sin: 1. Seek forgiveness from God with a humble heart, bringing the fruits of repentance. 2. Go and sin no more. 3. Put it behind you and continue working for the Lord.

  19. Where is your faith? Luke 7:50 Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.” • Where is our faith? • Knowing that God cares for us and is ready to forgive us? • That He will assist us in sinning no more? • That He has cleansed us perfectly so that we can work for Him once again?

  20. If you are not a Christian... • Jesus cares for you too and wants to forgive you. • He died for you and has provided a means to obtain salvation. • Come and be baptized washing away your sins. • Or if you need help and prayers of the congregation then come as we sing the chosen song.
