Bt Cotton In AP- Three Years Assessment Salient findings in 2004-05 • The Monsanto Bt seed was 3 times costlier • Farmers spent 75% more on irrigation • 8% more on fertilizers for growing Monsanto Bt • The pesticide consumption was just 8% less for Bt • Yield benefit was just 5% for the Bt hybrids • Monsanto hybrids required 15% more overall investments for their cultivation • Monsanto hybrids resulted in a net loss of Rs -252/- per acre, Non-Bt hybrids helped farmers with a net benefit of +597/- per acre 14 April 2005 APCIDD-DDS11
