Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence E2CCB and Chautauqua Works • Chautauqua Works Young Adult Advancement Initiative (YAAI). • The purpose of the YAAI is to provide Chautauqua County young adults with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles.  These principles include engaging the talents and interests of young adults, developing their skills and competencies and providing positive adult role models.

Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence The objectives for the YAAI are: • to provide an employment experience that stresses the development and practice of real world labor expectations • to bring greater awareness of the various support networks and programs available at community-based organizations • to provide opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy training and various academic and social supports

Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence • Target Population • Youth who qualify for Summer School though IEP Significant Regression Statements and who do not possess the skills to be successful through the regular Young Adult Advancement Initiative Program. The students also should qualify for YAAI program. • Youth with multiple barriers that would stop them from participation in the Young Adult Advancement Initiative (YAAI) independently • 9-12 grades

Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence • Purpose • The purpose to the E2CCB Summer Work Program is to provide component school twelve month students access to the Young Adult Advancement Initiative (YAAI) program. • Objectives • Provide a successful work experience • Maintain academic, social, and behavioral skills that may regress over the summer break • Expose youth to real work situations • Teach both Soft and Hard Work skills

Effective Oral and Written Communication • Role of Teacher/ Supervisor- • Teach alternate skills to behaviors • Help students identify personal skills that need to be improved • Help students identify job skills that need to be improved • Reinforce School/ Work Correlation • Retention Specialist role • Provide outside support/perspective • Reinforce work expectations • Assist in implementing individual behavior plans

Using Curriculum to Enhance Curiosity and Imagination: Skills Needed for the 21st Century • SEPUP (Science Education for Public Understanding) in conjunction with LabAids put together curriculum modules that focus on a student driven, hands-on approach to learning science. • The current module that is being field tested is called Science and Global Issues (SGI) which encompasses biology, chemistry and physics.

  18. Science in Global Issues (SGI) is SEPUP’s latest standards-based, issue-oriented two-year high school integrated science course. SGI focuses on the role of science in address the needs of modern society and the use of technology in advancing scientific knowledge. This course is currently in development and is currently being field-tested around the country. The completed version of SGI is anticipated to be published in 2010. http://www.lhs.berkeley.edu/sepup

  23. Tex said... Dear United States Government,We are writing this letter to urge you to do something about the deforestation in the world. Acres of rainforest are being destroyed everyday and we need to do something about it. If you read the "Story of the People of Rapa Nui" you will understand that the rainforest does not have sustainability because it takes a long time for a tree to grow but only a minute to cut one down. If we don't stop cutting down the rainforest, we are going to lose all of the plants and animals that live in the rainforest. Many medicines come from the rainforest and we won't be able to make the medicine without the plants. Please do something about this or we will end up like Rapa Nui.Thank you,Group #5 • JJL said... Dear Governor Patterson,This letter is an official request to solve the issue of deforestation. Much of the Rain Forest has already been destroyed and we need to prevent this in the future. Trees cannot replenish themselves at the rate people can cut them down at. Plants and animals are dependent on one another, so as you cut down trees, you also hurt animal habitat. Please help in the fight against deforestation, so we can sustain our planet for our kids and grandchildren.Thank you,Group #3
