Reasons for getting a Bilingual Authorization • Shortage of bilingual teachers who can communicate with linguistically and culturally diverse students and their families. • Benefits associated with obtaining a bilingual authorization: • Increases job opportunities • Improves target language skills • Increases knowledge of diverse cultures. • Enhances ability to contribute to diverse communities • Promotes global understanding

  3. BILINGUAL AUTHORIZATION • An additional authorization that allows you to teach in K-12 bilingual classrooms. • Can be added to your Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential • Requirements: • Two additional classes • Fieldwork • Target language proficiency • Courses may be applied towards a graduate degree

  4. Bilingual Authorization at CSUF • Nationally and state accredited programs (NCATE/CTC) • Experienced Team of Instructors • Bilingual Authorization available • for Multiple Subject or Single Subject credential candidates • in Spanish and in Asian languages (Chinese, Filipino, Hmong, Korean and Vietnamese ) • Multiple Subject credential candidates may select a two or a three-semester cohort • Enrollment in a bilingual cohort is strongly recommended.

Bilingual Authorization Courses • Spanish Bilingual Authorization Courses: • EDEL/EDSC 446: Methods and Inquiry for Spanish Bilingual Teachers (3 units) • EDEL/EDSC 541: Culture and Education of Latino Students (3 units) • Asian Bilingual Authorization Courses (Pending) • EDSC/EDEL 446: Methods and Inquiry for ______ Bilingual Teachers (3 units) • EDSC/EDEL 541: Culture and Education of ______ Students (3 units) • CSUF courses (TBA) • Courses can be taken from Asian BTEP Consortium (See Asian Bilingual Authorization Coordinator for more information.)
