1. General Information • Name of the Monitoring Institution • Shiv Charan Mathur Social Policy Research Institute, Jaipur • Districts Covered : Sawai Madhopur & Tonk • Total No. of elementary schools in the Districts • Sawai Madhopur: 1504 Tonk: 1895 • No. of elementary schools covered under monitoring • Sawai Madhopur: 80 (5.32%) Tonk: 103 (5.44%) • Before sending the report to the GOI, MI has shared with SPD
District Sawai Madhopur • Mid day meal is given freshly cooked and hot to children in all sampled schools. • Average attendance of children in schools is only 56.9% out of them 85.4% children actually availed Mid day meal on the day of visit. • No discrimination has been noticed either in seating arrangement or in serving the food. • There is gender discrimination in the selection of cooks since, 96% cooks are female.
Mid day meal is different on each day of the week and menu is displayed on blackboard in the school premises. • Children of 87.5% schools are found satisfied with quality and 80% schools with quantity of food. • Only 50% school children are given the essential micronutrients. • Health card for each child of schools are not maintained in the district. • 88.7% schools have pucca shed for cooking.
District Tonk • All the sampled 103 schools serve hot freshly cooked food to children. • 74.4% children were present on the day of MI visit, out of them 91.08% of children actually availed MDM. • No caste or community discrimination observed by the MI team in seating arrangement or serving the food.
Contents of the food under MDM scheme are not the same every day; weekly menu is displayed on the black board in the school premises. • 82.57% school children found meal sufficient in quantity while 92.2% school children found food satisfactory in quality. • According to 68% schools, micronutrients are given to children once a week. • Out of 103 sampled schools, female cooks are working in 100 schools; most of them (86%) belong to OBC.
Only 69% schools have pucca shed for kitchen. • Potable water is available in 80% schools for cooking and drinking purposes.
