Marzano’s 6 Steps Process for Teaching New Terms • Teacher provides a description, explanation, or example of the new term • Students restate the description, explanation, or example in their own words • Ask students to construct a picture, symbol, or graphic representing the term • Periodically ask students to discuss the terms with one another • Involve students periodically in games that allow them to play
P.A.T.T. members ideas for using word clouds to teach vocabulary • As a pre-assessment, students create a word cloud of vocabulary words that they are not familiar with. • Create a word cloud in a shape that represents the vocabulary list (tagxedo only) • Students type the vocabulary word and the key word next to it (use ~ to connect two words) • Create many word clouds and then put them side-by-side • Students create a word cloud describing a specific vocabulary word.
