Using Prefixes • Prefixes change the meaning of a word.
Using Suffixes • Inflections occur when you add -s, -es, or -ed box= boxes (n) computer=computers (n) type=typed (v) Inflections do not change the part of speech. • Derivations occur when you add a suffix such as • -able, -ation, -ive • Creatable creation (n) creative (adj) • Derivations change the part of speech.
