    1. Outlining Basics Organizing information in the outline form helps students to experience academic success!

    3. Outlining Basics Outlines begin with broad topics and get more detailed as they go on.

    4. Outlining Basics Outlines should always have a title that reflects the subject matter of the outline.

    5. Outlining Basics The first heading on an outline is the roman numeral (I, II, III, IV, V). The roman numerals state the main topic or idea.

    7. Outlining Basics The second heading on an outline is the capital letter (A, B, C). The capital letters go beneath the roman numerals on your outline. The capital letters state a subtopic of the roman numerals’ topic or idea.

    9. Outlining Basics The third heading on an outline is the number (1, 2, 3). The numbers go beneath the capital letters on your outline. The numbers are divisions of the capital letters’ subtopics.

    11. Outlining Basics The fourth heading on an outline is the lower case letter (a, b, c). The lower case letters go beneath the numbers on your outline. The lower case letters give supporting evidence for the division stated by the numbers.
