Charlie Chaplin Charlie Chaplin was an English actor, comedian, and filmmaker, who rose to fame in the silent era. Chaplin became a worldwide idol through his screen persona "the Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. (1889-1997)
Charlie Chaplin was born in Londonin a poor family. He hadto make a living by himselfat the age of 10. In September 1898, his mother was committed to suicide. His father died two years later, at 38 years old. Chaplin's childhood was full of poverty and hardship. "I was hardly aware of a crisis because we lived in a continual crisis; and, being a boy, I dismissed our troubles with gracious forgetfulness." – Chaplin on his childhood
