Power of the Pen An introduction to the program

What is it? • A creative writing competition • Writers create a piece in 35-40 minutes • Prompt is seen at the time when writing begins • Three rounds of competition at each location

Who Competes? • Seventh Graders • Six writers • Other members may “run” • Other members may “shadow write” • Eighth Graders • Six writers • Other members may “run”

Scoring Rank order 1 -6 Percentage score is used to settle ties Judges’ comments should be positive, encouraging, and constructive! Scoring Sheet is on table. Schedule is on table Each round has six writers.

Requests Parents may come to the award ceremony at 2:00 with cameras. IF you are taking your son / daughter from the competition, please see Mrs. Tenney to sign him/ her out!!! Ink is required. Please bring a regular ball-point pen. Dress in layers. Do not wear Field colors or items
