One Ring to Rule Them All!! A history on the nurburgring and german racing culture by: Johann Nathaniel Albro
What it really is: A race track that was built in the 1920s around Nurburg which is about 25 miles south of Bonn the old capital of West Germany
Life Before the Ring: In the early 1920s races were held on on public roads in the Eifel mountains, which they soon realized was dangerous So they decided to build a dedicated race track and so the birth of the nurburgring was delivered.
Track Geography The track is 28 kilometers or over 17 miles long and originally the track had four track configurations: the whole 28 km course, 22 km Nordschleife, the 7.7 km Sudschleife and a 2.3 km warm up loop. But in 1982 the warm up loop was destroyed to create a new GP-strecke which is used in all International races However the Nordschleife aka the “green hell” is still in use and is considered widely to be the toughest and most dangerous and demanding race track in the world
Track Uses I mean how many uses does a race track have right WRONG! The track is used for many events like cycling, formula 1, grand prix, rally and sports car races, motorcycle and even car testing grounds for major car companies such as porche and VW
And Yes Even Tank Racing EPIC FAIL!
One of the great things about the track is that its open to the public • For one lap it costs 22 euros per vehicle • Multi lap tickets can be bought for lower price per lap rates • Also annual unlimited lap season passes from december to january and be bought • Normal non racing non timed accidents may be covered by insurance but the use of a stop watch or otherwise voids it and furthermore drivers participate at their own risk.
S#*& happens Some typical accidents on the nurburgring
