MEAP-Access Design • MEAP-Access is a modified version of MEAP— • Fewer Items, sessions • Fewer Answer Choices • Less complex formats • Based on MEAP-Access Pilot (winter 2009)
MEAP-Access Status • Delayed until Fall 2011 due to low participation, item functioning/reliability • Plan: • Review other states’ Modification guidelines • Create Michigan’s Modification Guidelines • Revise MEAP items using Guidelines
MEAP-Access • Plan, continued • Conduct Cognitive Labs around state to test out formats and revised items • Do further revisions/write new items as necessary • Embed items on MEAP and MI-Access FI in Fall 2010 • Conduct BSC, CAC review of new and field-tested MEAP-Access items and passages • Administer MEAP-Access in Fall 2011
MEAP-Access • Assessment Options • IEP Teams have the flexibility to have a student participate in MEAP, MEAP-Access or MI-Access (FI only) for different content areas. • Example 1: MEAP Reading & Writing, MEAP-Access Mathematics • Example 2: MEAP-Access Reading and Writing, MI-Access FI Mathematics
MOPLS • New initiative from BAA • Focus on training related to assessment and connections to instruction • Funded under GSEG grant and vendor contracts • Different options for user access and course credit • Provides schools and districts with additional source for robust, research-based, job-embedded professional learning to staff
MOPLS • Assessment Selection Guidelines • Currently available on Michigan Virtual University’s LearnPort, http://mi.learnport.org • Companion to printed document • User-driven presentation • Suitable for multiple audiences and training approaches • Student-centered system for matching student needs to the assessment
MOPLS • Next projects being planned through BAA - Math and ELA for Struggling Students • Gathering place for best practices, instructional models, and assessment-based research on challenging concepts • We need your help! This project will feature videos of Michigan teachers delivering their “best lessons” in math and ELA • Contact Erika Bolig (BoligE@michigan.gov) or visit www.michigan.gov/oeaa for downloadable form • "MOPLS Exceptional Lesson Plan Response Form for Math"
