Saquen… • Las Agendas-to write down tonight’s homework (carta a la maestra) • Tarea de anoche: Syllabus
Unacarta a la maestra • At least 150 words (a few paragraphs in Spanish) and TYPED Must include: Name Origin (where you are from) Family Hobbies or sports you play Your experience with the Spanish language, does anyone in your family speak Spanish to you at home? What are your goals/reasons for studying Spanish? A postscript (P.S.) that reveals something unique or unusual about you.
Materials Needed by Monday • Binder with a labeled “Spanish” section • Spiral Notebook for Notes I will check to see if you have these items on Monday
Class Rules: • BE respectful (to each other, the teacher, the classroom) • DO NOT BE disruptive (interfering with anyone else’s ability to learn) If you cannot follow the rules, you cannot be in here.
What do I do if I’m absent? • YOU are responsible for finding out/making up what you missed (notes, HW, warm-up and handouts) Please do NOT ask me what you missed during class time! • Make-up Binder for handouts given in class • www.oahs.net for HW assignments and warm-ups • Make-up assignments on your own time! • Write down contact info of 3 friends from class (if something is missing from my website you may contact these homies)
Why you’re not gonna have a good time if you miss my class… • Susie had a soccer game and missed 6th period. There is a Catfish marathon going on so she decides NOT to make up ANY of her work. Here’s all the points she lost from just one day!
-5 pts for HW due that day (she wasn’t there to turn in OBVI) • -5 pts for HW due the next day (she didn’t bother to look it up online or get it from a friend) • -5 pts for participation(these are potential, but still) • - 4 pts for class work(she didn’t feel like looking online to make up that either, I mean, you can’t just start a Catfish marathon and not finish it) • WHOA, WHOA, WHOA she lost almost 20 points just for missing ONE class and NOT making up her work! Imagine if this was a quiz day… it could jump up to -50 points! • Moral of the story: Make-up your work
Homework • You will be assigned homework almost every night • Each assignment is worth 5 pts. and due at the beginning of class. Your homework needs to be finished by the time you arrive to class. If you are caught doing your homework right before class, you will also lose all points for the homework that day • 3 missed HW assignments = Call Home • NO LATE HOMEWORK will be accepted unless you have an excused absence
Grading Categories 15% 45% 20% 20%
