Grades The grading system is based on written work (including assignments, quizzes, and tests) teacher observations, informal assessments, projects, and class participation. Grades are given on a point system, and based on the following percentages: • 90-100% A • 80-89% B • 70-79% C • 60-69% D • 0-59% F I do not “give” students grades. They “earn” them.
Curriculum • Reading-Harcourt • Math-SFAW / Investigations • Health / Social Studies- Harcourt • Reading/math resources on the web • Kyrene Curriculum • http://www.kyrene.org/curriculum/
Projects/Assignments • Almost always give a printed direction sheet. (Email attachment) • Usually it includes how the project will be graded. • Use the grading rubric/checklist to check the finished project. • I often show/read examples in class.
At-Home Projects • Quarterly Book Reports and Literature Celebrations (begins in 2nd Quarter) • Class work that does not get completed at school. • Reading Log: 80 minutes per week due at the end of each week signed by you. 20 minutes per night. • Daily homework (spelling, math, grammar, etc.)
Arizona Weekly Studies • We use Arizona Weekly Studies magazine as a way to teach Arizona culture, geography etc… • Every child should have their own copy. • If you are able to donate $7.00 for your child or if you would like to make an extra donation for another student, I would be so appreciative. Please return the form on your desk.
