  1. Writing an Announcement about Anti-Bullying Week

  2. Ontario has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. • During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week Ontario students, school staff and parents are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being.

  3. Your job • You will be writing announcements to share with the school during anti-bullying week. • You need to think about what bullying is, and what we are doing at ACES to prevent bullying. • Remember to include ideas from WITS and/or LEADS

  4. How to write your announcement: • 1. With your elbow partner, think about the information that could be included in an anti-bullying announcement, and make a list of details • Choose which details you want to include. • Put the details in order of importance.

  5. Remember that an announcement needs to be short and to the point, but very clear. Be sure to use carefully chosen words, and correct sentence structure. • Your announcement is to be written for author’s circle – it is due next Tuesday.

  6. How long should it be? • Time the message so that it is no more than one minute in length when it is read. Be sure that each sentence is stated clearly, using as few words as possible to communicate the most important, relevant information.

  7. Practice reading the announcement aloud to see if it sounds right and covers all the information you wanted to include.
