Introduction • Technology and technology developments have given to rise to many changes in society………. • How? • Access and process information • The way we communicate • Day to day applications and solving problems • MYP Technology • to help you become skillful problem solvers • Who can appreciate the role of technology and society in everyday life • Who can respond critically and resourcefully to real-life changes
Aims of MYP Technology • challenge all students by providing opportunities for different needs and learning styles • encourage students to explore the role of technology in both historical and contemporary contexts • contribute to raising students’ awareness of their responsibilities as world citizens when making decisions and taking action on technology issues.
What does MYP Technology look like? • It has three branches • Information • Materials • Systems
Information • To access, evaluate and acknowledge information sources • Information based products/ solutions use and / or communicate information to perform a task, to achieve a purpose which involves computer technology • For example- • Desktop publishing , multimedia products and web pages
Material • Use of materials in making products/ solutions for a problem • Natural or synthetic • Students should be able to identify, combine , experiment with shape and handle different types of materials, and safely dispose of , or recycle, waste products. • Students must select processing techniques that are appropriate to both the chosen material and the product created.
System • It is a group of interdependent items that come together to perform a task . • Examples • Microchip-aircraft flight control system • Ballpoint-alarm system • Electrical circuits-sophisticated alarm systems • Input-process-output
Fundamental Concepts • Holistic learning • Intercultural awareness • Communication
